Artist's biography Max PAPART was born in 1911 and died at the age of 83 in 1994. He is a contemporary Franco-American collagist painter. Originally from Marseille, he briefly took lessons at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, preferring to train himself in painting. He left Marseille for Paris at the age of 25, where he worked as an artisan printer. It is then that he begins to exhibit and make his first engravings. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and made his first aquatint engravings. He participates in various group exhibitions. His first exhibition took place in 1938 at the Galerie Bureau in Paris, then at the Galerie Sébire in Marseille in 1946. During his career, he illustrated bibliophile works by Jacques Prévert and Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes. It evolves in a post-cubist language to an expression borrowing from the abstraction of certain plastic reasoning. For his creations he uses mixed techniques and collage. But he still seeks to improve his technique by trying his hand at the technique of etching by adding carborundum invented by his friend Henri Goetz. He also became a teacher at the University of Paris VIII, where he taught printing. Then, towards the end of his life, he began to design jewelry. Unfortunately, he died before the production of his collection was complete.
