Expert's comment : Like most of the artists of the New School of Paris, Magdalena Reinharez was originally from Eastern Europe and arrived in France at a very young age. She trained as a sculptor and then as a painter in various workshops, including those of Fernand Léger and André Lothe. She developed her eye for composition, volumes and shapes, which she developed in her painting, drawing and sculpture. Maria Reinharez's favourite subjects are landscapes and animals, of which she is particularly fond of the horse. But what inspires the artist most in her works is movement, which she renders in a remarkable way in her paintings, ink drawings and sculptures. In her paintings, the movement is reinforced by the contrast between the liveliness of the brushstrokes and the choice of a pastel colour palette. Her contemporaries characterise her as a highly talented animal sculptor who is able to render both power and fragility in her subjects. Her works on bullfighting show us once again the quality of the artist who knows how to show the contained power of the animal and the elegance of the bullfighter in a dramatic ballet. In her works, the artist oscillates between figurative and abstract in order to better transmit her emotions and touch the spectator even before he grasps the meaning. During her career, Magdanela Reinharez won numerous prizes, including the first prize of the Dome in 1955. She participated in numerous exhibitions and solo and group shows in France and around the world. In the 2000s, the artist participated in other "critical figuration" exhibitions.
